What is a Crunch Card®?
“Crunch Cards®” is a patented line of edible greeting cards for pets. We currently offer cards for dogs made of flat, premium rawhide panels, carefully pressed and artfully decorated with seasonal or everyday designs
What is it a Crunch Card® made of?
Premium, 100% Natural Rawhide, and water-based, non-toxic ink.
Is the entire Crunch Card® edible?
The flattened panel of rawhide is edible, and designed to be chewed by the dog. The mailing envelope and paper insert that come with the cards are not meant to be consumed by the dog.
Can you write a greeting on the card, if you are sending it to someone else?
If you have an edible ink marker (such as a Food Doodler), you can write on the card. However, each card comes with a paper insert which includes an area to write your sentiment, and when you mail it to someone else, the insert includes information for the pet’s owner that the cards is 100% Natural Rawhide and meant for the dog to chew.
What kind of ink do you use?
The inks we used are a specially formulated water based product. We continually test our inks and Crunch Cards® at the leading Animal Health Diagnostic labs in the United States
Will the ink run on my carpet or dog’s face?
No. We have not had one complaint with regard to the inks running. We have also conducted our own in house water safety tests with no negative staining results.
Do all dogs like your Crunch Cards?
Approximately 90% of dogs like rawhide. We have heard numerous stories from customers who tell us that initially their dog has an awkward time in figuring out that the Crunch Card is rawhide and they don’t know what to do with them at first. This is due to the flattened, smooth shape of the Crunch Card®, and it may take a few minutes for your dog to realize that they can hold it in their paws and chew on it. Sometime dogs see the shape as awkward and they can’t figure out how to chew it. For those dogs, we recommend bending the card in the middle and making it like a “tent” shape so that the pet has a more accessible way to pick it up and chew it.
I recently got a Crunch card for my dog. It is hard, and cannot be broken into pieces. Why?
Rawhide products are hard as a general rule. They will not break easily, and that is why it takes a dog a long time to chew on them. The dental benefits that come from chewing rawhide are because it is a long lasting chew. If you want smaller pieces or strips for your dog, you can use scissors to cut the card in half or into strips.
How long has Crunchkins™ been in business?
Crunchkins™ was launched in 2001. Since then our unique Edible Greeting cards have won numerous awards and been featured in many media outlets.
Is rawhide safe for all dogs? I have heard stories about rawhide “getting stuck” in a dog’s throat or stomach.
Between our staff at Crunchkins™, our numerous sales Representatives, and the number of Crunch Cards® we have donated to shelters and rescue groups, we know at least 7 dogs that have had at least one Crunch Card almost every other day for over 8 years, and have had no complications. One of our dogs, Magic, a Black Lab who lived 15 1/2 years, had almost one Crunch Card every other day and sometimes even daily for the last 5 years of his life
If your dog has gastrointestinal disease or is eating a therapeutic diet, you should seek a veterinarian's approval before feeding any chews. Dogs with beef allergies or that consistently swallow bones whole should probably not receive chews unattended.
Are Crunch Cards® safe for small dogs and puppies?
We have customers who have contacted us and told us that their small dogs (Yorkies, Shih-tzus) love our cards! The owners tell us their dogs actually prefer our Crunch Card® rawhide over the traditional forms of other rawhide products. Because the cards are flat, the dogs have to “hold” the card in their paws and it seems to slow down their chewing, therefore, the rawhide lasts longer than the typical bone shaped rawhide chews. Other owners have told us they buy our cards and cut them into strips of rawhide for their dogs. As with all treats and toys, we recommend that you monitor your own dog while he is enjoying his Crunch Card®.
What is the Expiration date on your cards?
Generally, we recommend that cards be consumed within 2 years of their purchase date. Each Crunch Card® is packaged in its own individual polybag which protects it from moisture. We recommend that you keep your Crunch Cards in its polybag and stored in a dry place or away from moisture and high levels of humidity.
Do they come with an envelope?
Every Crunch Card® and Purr-Fect Greeting™ cards come with a brightly colored mailing envelope.
How much does it cost to mail one of your greeting cards?
Most of the Crunch Cards® and Purr-Fect Greeting™ cards mail for a standard first class postage stamp. However, since the rawhide can vary in weight, additional postage may be required.

Rawhide is the inner layer of the hide of any cleft-hoofed bovine livestock. The animal's skin is split into inner and outer layers. The tough outer layer is used for leather shoes, garments, and upholstery, while the softer inner layer is cut and formed into different shapes for dog chews.
Why is Rawhide so tough?
Collagen fibers link to make the animal's hide tough yet flexible. Human skin has the same basic structure but is much thinner.
Where does Crunchkins™ Rawhide come from?
Crunchkins has sourced rawhide from several areas. This includes Oriental Water-Buffalo from countries like Thailand,South American Range Cows, and Mexico.
All Crunch Cards are safety tested in the United States at the leading Animal Health Diagnostic labs.
How is Rawhide processed?
The animal's hide is transported to processing plants where it is split, washed, and cleaned. The hides are then cut, formed and dried into many varieties of rawhide you see in the stores.
Will my dog chew such a hard rawhide?
When collagen in the skin dries out, it becomes stiff. As your dog chews, the saliva moistens and softens the rawhide.
What is the nutritional breakdown of Crunch Cards®?
High in protein, low in fat, especially compared to pig ears and other pork skin products, and fewer calories per ounce than a typical dog biscuit.
How do rawhide chews help my dog?
The natural tendencies of wild canines and their predecessors was to sink their teeth into their prey and pull away on the hides stripping the skin and meat. Inherent in this feeding processes was the beneficial action of the tugging and pressure on the teeth and gums which served to toughen the gums and clean the teeth for a continuously healthy mouth. Rawhide offers two valuable benefits to your dog.
Heart, Liver, and kidney infections can result when poor dental health gives bacteria an environment to enter your dog's body. Bacteria in the dog's mouth breaks down food particles and converts them to plaque and excess acid. The plaque can become mineralized to form a hard deposit on the tooth surface called "calculus." The excess acid damages the gums resulting in gingivitis. Unchecked gingivitis results in periodontitis, the leading cause of tooth loss. As rawhide is chewed and moistened, it wraps around the teeth and rubs off plaque and calculi. This study shows the effectiveness of rawhide chews to reduce plaque in beagle dogs.
Most dogs have an inherent desire to chew, especially puppies. This behavior can result in dogs chewing on inappropriate items such as furniture and clothing. Rawhide offers a dog a safe chewing outlet. After Hurricane Katrina, we sent 25,000 Crunch Cards to the rescued dogs. Many of these dogs were nervous due to being separated from their owners and in a strange environment. The rescue workers appreciated the Rawhide chews because they lasted longer than regular dog biscuits and gave the dogs something to do.
